Model-informed precision dosing & model averaging: the example of vancomycin by Prof. Sebastian Wicha

Sebastian Wicha is a leading the research group Clinical Pharmacy at the Institute of Pharmacy, University of Hamburg, Germany since 2017. He was a Junior Professor from 2017 to 2021, and was promoted to a tenured Full Professorship in 2021. He is a pharmacist by training holding a Ph.D. in Clinical Pharmacy from the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany (2015) and gained experience as a postdoctoral researcher at the Pharmacometrics Research Group at Uppsala University, Sweden (2015-2017).

His research group aims to improve and individualize drug therapy by means of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic techniques with a special focus on anti-infectives. In this field, he has published >50 peer-reviewed papers. The group has expertise in bioanalysis, pharmacometric data analysis, and develops open-access web-based software to foster model-based therapeutic drug monitoring. Sebastian is Associate Editor at the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents (IJAA), and currently serves as President (term 2020-2022) of the International Society of Anti-Infective Pharmacology (ISAP) and as Education officer of the PK/PD study group of the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).
